Base4Work
Bratislava, Slovakia
Base4Work is a co-working company that provides businesses and individuals with workplace solutions and event venues for a flexible duration. Our day-to-day priority is guaranteeing spaces and products that can be adapted to current needs. The old heating plant in Bratislava was originally built by Dušan Jurkovič, one of the most important modernist Slovak architects. Today it is a listed building and part of the Sky Park complex designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.
When designing the new layout, the idea was to draw inspiration from the heating plant's spectacular ambience – as the competitive advantage of co-working spaces often lies in their unique character. The architects therefore incorporated references to motifs from Jurkovič's historic oeuvre. Some meeting rooms were even placed in the massive concrete hoppers, which were originally used to store solid fuel. In order to meet the high standards of aesthetics and quality that come with furnishing a national cultural monument, the workplaces, conference rooms and retreat areas were outfitted with products from Vitra.
