Why the Eames La Fonda Chair was designed

Charles and Ray Eames often addressed the needs of their friends in their designs. This was the case with the Eames La Fonda Group, created in 1961 for their friend Alexander Girard, who was designing a new restaurant in New York City called La Fonda del Sol.

Vitra launched the Eames Fiberglass Side Chair La Fonda as a limited edition that combines the seat shell by Charles and Ray Eames with cushions in the Toostripe fabric by Alexander Girard. The chair is available in two colour versions of 250 pieces each from select dealers.
