Don Bosco

Basel, Switzerland

The non-profit association Don Bosco provides cultural institutions and creative artists in the Basel region with inexpensive but high-quality rehearsal rooms, concert halls, recording infrastructure as well as office and archive space. For this purpose, the former Don Bosco Roman Catholic Church was converted into a rehearsal space and concert centre. Due to the strict directives governing the protection of historic buildings, only minor interventions were allowed.

When outfitting the concert hall, cafeteria, chapel and sacristy as well as the rehearsal rooms, studios, offices and storage areas, the client opted for furniture classics by Vitra: understated chairs and tables by the designer couple Charles and Ray Eames blend in perfectly with the substance of this venerable building, fulfilling a range of different uses and exuding the 'workshop character' sought by the client.
