Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest – and best rated – airports in the world serves as a transit hub for Asia. The main terminal (T1), which opened in 1998 and had been in continuous operation ever since, was in urgent need of refurbishment and modernisation when the Covid pandemic struck. While the client recognised the opportunity to take advantage of the reduced traffic for renovation work, the pandemic simultaneously posed a huge economic challenge.
Vitra was able to win the tender to furnish the waiting areas with over 11,000 seat units by outlining the benefits of durable quality, good design, and seamless service and maintenance. Customised products were additionally required for certain areas, and were implemented in the same renowned high quality as that of standard Vitra waiting systems. Terminal 1 at Hong Kong International Airport is therefore now optimally equipped to withstand another twenty-five years of intensive use.
